Privacy Information

We understand the importance of privacy for website visitors. Our policy is to collect no personal information about you when you visit our website unless you choose to make such information available to us.

Minnesota State is firmly committed to respecting the privacy of all website visitors to the extent permitted by state and federal laws, including the Minnesota Government Data Practices Act, Minn. Stat. Ch. 13. 

This Privacy Statement is intended to explain the ways in which we collect information, the way we will use the information collected, and the protections we will provide the information you choose to give to us.

Server Logs
91Թ automatically gathers and stores information from online visitors to help manage the website and improve service. This information includes pages, files, documents and links visited, date and time of access, browser type and operating system used, domain name and IP address fo access. Information is used in aggregate only. No attempt is made to identify individual visitors from this information.

Personal Information Provided by You
The 91Թ website will collect only personal information which you knowingly and voluntarily provide by, for example, sending emails, completing forms, registering for classes or other events, responding to surveys. The information will be used only for the purposes you authorized. Personally identifiable information will not be sold, exchanged, or otherwise distributed without your consent, except to the extent required by law.

Student directory information may be released without the student’s written consent. Directory information includes name, address, telephone number, major field of study, participation in officially recognized activities and sports, weight and height of athletes, classification (e.g., freshman, sophomore, full-time, or part-time), dates of attendance, date of graduation, degrees, certificates and awards received. If you do not want your directory information released, you must notify the Office of the Registrar in writing.

Cookies
We use “cookies” to enhance your browsing experience and gather information about how you interact with our site. “Cookies” are pieces of information stored by your web browser on your computer on behalf of a website and returned to the website on request. Pursuant to Minnesota Statutes, § 13.15, subdivisions 4 and 5, this is the required notice to users that we will install a cookie on your computer at certain times when you access this website. This information may be used for purposes of evaluating electronic government services, preventing unlawful intrusions to electronic systems, or as otherwise provided by law. We use cookies for a number of purposes, including but not limited to: carrying data about your current session at the site from one web page to the next and identifying you to the site between visits. Unless otherwise notified on this site, we will not store data using cookies other than for these purposes.

We also may use cookies to evaluate our website and to track advertising campaign performance from banner ads, opt-in e-mails and through third-party advertising services. These cookies and tracking pixels (also called web beacons, action tags, floodlight tags, or transparent GIF files) contain an ID number that allows us to track the pages you’ve visited within our website. We compile this data with that of other users to track overall traffic patterns to help us improve the layout of our site and to understand, for example, the effectiveness of our advertising and marketing campaigns. The tags are industry-standard technology and are anonymous. No personally identifiable information is stored on these cookies or web pixels.

We also use Google Analytics to analyze traffic to our site. Google uses cookies to provide this service to us. Google’s cookies are used to store information, such as what time your visit occurred, whether you have been to the site before, and what site referred you to our web page. Information about your visits to 91Թ and the mnwest.edu page and its subdomains may be combined and shared within the Minnesota State system.

Cookies may also be set by an organization other than MInnesota West or Minnesota State, such as YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, or other social media services for which we have implemented “plug-ins.” Information on their cookie policies can be found on these sites directly.

Cookies remain on your computer until you delete them. Unless otherwise notified on this site, we do not exchange cookies with outside entities. If you prefer not to receive cookies, you may turn them off in your browser settings, or you may set your browser to ask you before accepting a new cookie. Some pages may not function properly if the cookies are turned off.

You may also prevent information about your visit from being collected by Google Analytics by turning off JavaScript in your browser settings or by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on. 

Secure applications at Minnesota State, which require users to log in, may or may not use cookies in order to track things such as passwords and session information.
